The Problem at the Heart of Physics

Is there a deeper connection between QCT and the "Participating Observer and the Architecture of Reality"?

Yes. Deeper than anybody here is ready to understand.

It is apparently a bizarre co-incidence that Greg's theory has turned up at the same time as mine, and in fact there is a third piece to this puzzle (the "void mathematics" need to turn into a completed TOE), which also turned up at the same time, apparently by pure co-incidence.

What is an undeniable fact is that three authors had no prior contact with each other. Whether this is actually a co-incidence or something more is a profound open question, but it goes well beyond the boundaries of empirical science and so I will not go into more detail about it here. If you want to know more then Google is your friend.

Regarding Greg's distancing himself...I am sure he will elaborate more himself, but since he wrote that statement (in the paper, and also his comment on the gravity article on my website) he has had a significant change of mind. We are now in the early stages of planning to co-author a book.
